Review of Diary of the Dead (2007) by Michael D — 09 Oct 2010
A somewhat different spin on the fifth entry in the living dead series has a group of film students capture the events of the growing flesh eating zombie epidemic on video as it happens while they escape and seek out shelter and survivors.
There are a number of moments that hold you in certain degrees of suspense and the consistent filming-in-the-movie works from time to time, but director Romero is not as experienced in handling this "live-footage" technique here as some may hope.
On the plus side, there's still some pretty creative and gory kills featured here yet again! Although this was an improvement over the previous one ("Land of the Dead"), thanks to the 2004 remake of "Dawn of the Dead", it made me yearn for the zombies that could run and were even more intense.
Overall, this wasn't bad. However, as far as the entire filming-during-a-crisis plot was concerned, "Cloverfield" was unquestionably superior in that regard!
