Review of Diary of the Dead (2007) by Hugo G — 03 Apr 2009
Easily the best of romero's films since Night of the living dead. the acting here is actually good, making a welcome change from previous films, there's good subtle wit, and Diary offers further proof that Romero's best work comes on a low budget.
furthermore, whereas every movie from Dawn to Land of the Dead has been blighted by ludicrousness, Diary returns to the sort-of-realism that made Night so effective. that said, it remains fairly silly, the ever present heavy handed and obvious social commentary is still irritating, and without any decent scares this is no [rec], but it's worth a look, and you haven't been able to say that about a romero film since the 60s.
