Review of Diary of the Dead (2007) by Andrew S — 18 Jun 2009
Romero's subtext hammer started off as a small toffee hammer in Night of the Living Dead, you could feel it, but it was just a mild tapping to get your attention.
Dawn and Day had a claw hammer, bashing you in the skull with obviousness and leaving you bleeding and dazed, but alert enough to relay a detailed report to the police.
Land, and now the appalling, toothless Diary, have replaced that hammer with a jackhammer and turned our heads to mush with social commentary.
