Review of Diary of the Dead (2007) by Josh J — 23 Sep 2009
On my second viewing of Diary, a year or two after my first viewing, I have found a certain appreciation for this that I didn't have the first time around.
I find that it's decent not because of the scare tactics, which are blunt and obvious, nor because of the acting which often times is forced and stiff. More so for the semi-pretentious posturing on the human psyche. "Are we worth saving?" This is asked after the anti-climactic ending, and though it's a question that's been asked multiple times from multiple movies, few of them have shown us such a distinctly clear vision of just how pitiful the majority of the human race is...all of us included. The answer to that question is probably not, but we at least deserved a more thrilling and suspenseful film to get us to that inevitable "revelation.".
