Review of Dheepan (2015) by Zacho D — 28 Sep 2015
VIFF Review: This is yet another knockout from Jacques Audiard. It's a tale of 3 people who decided to make a fake family and illegally immigrate into France in order to escape the horrors of war in their country, only to later find horrors of war in France.
It's quite a unique take on the "Family Drama" as they are not a real family, but because they don't want to be caught, they have to behave like one and over time, they begin to become like an actual family.
Even though this all sounds peachy, I can see why France recently decided to not have this film represent their country at The Oscars despite giving this film the Palme D'or earlier this year. Why? "Dheepan" doesn't exactly paint France with a nice colour.
Regardless, this is no detractor from the film and "Dheepan" is overall quite Dheesexy if you ask me. One of the year's best!
