Gripping and emotionally pulling this truth based picture features a career best performance from witherspoon and a passable american accent from firth. A lot of the facts about this case are already in the public domain so there is little new here but the film does have the power to ask a lot of questions and the fact that some of them are unanswered leads the viewer uneasily into the "imagine yourself in their position" zone.

Uneasy and hard to watch this is nonetheless thought-provoking film-making.
