Review of Devdas (2002) by Sandeep S — 29 Feb 2008
Despite all the flak it gets from critics who declare that the older version is better, I safely say I beg to differ...I found Dilip Kumar (in the old version) terribly wooden, and very pedestrian when compared to Shah Rukh's performance of the character.
..but much kudos goes to Madhuri Dixit, who in one of her finest performances outshines both Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh as the lovelorn and third wheel courtesan (prostitute) Chandramukhi...The rest of the supporting cast are all adeuqate, but Kiron Kher stands above them all.
..The main highlight of the film however are the grandeur sets, all exquisite and stylised, and costumes which give you a sense of the "classic old feel" of India...
