Review of Detroit Rock City (1999) by Michael Y — 08 Jul 2010
A movie about a KISS concert. Need I say more? Four teenage KISS fans set their sights to Detroit to get tickets to the greatest rock concert on Earth. But of coarse there's trouble along the way with hilarious consequences.
This is one of those "Ultimate Journey" movies. A quest for the greatest goal. But one of the greatest things about this movie is that not everybody loves KISS, some audiences aren't that big KISS fans, and some people who watch this movie might not even know any KISS songs. Though that thought is blasphemy, their unstoppable determination can make anyone feel these character's pain because we all have something we charish and would do anything to achieve.
The movie is absolutely hilarious with one of the greatest soundtracks I have ever heard. Full of the best rock music from many legendary bands. But I found this movie to be wonderfully directed as well. Great editing and camera angles makes this movie an enjoyably wild ride.
This is a great comedy and a great story about the journey for the things we love, and though they these characters quest for concert tickets, they find something a little bit more treasuring then what they were looking for. But is there a greater treasure than tickets to KISS? If there is it would be one of the few.
