This is hardly the definitive piece on the 1967 riot in Detroit though it gives a gripping and plausible explanation for what happened and it's focus on what was known as The Algiers Motel incident lays bare the virulent racism I remember.
It will make you uncomfortable, but it ought to be required viewing given the legacy of police violence we often have today against people of color.
