Review of Detroit (2017) by Paul W — 01 Sep 2017
The long scene of the "line up" and associated fake and real murders was painful and harrowing. I wanted it to end. Ultimately, the church choir singing of Cleveland Larry Reed, played by Algee Smith, had me in tears.
As has been said, this is perhaps "a primer for white people" and it is profoundly uncomfortable, even disturbing. Although the era was different, I had similar feelings of uncomfortable guilt as I had on watching "12 years a slave".
