Review of Detour (1992) by Terry C — 05 Jun 2010
Unbelievable coincidences move the plot of this film noir along, but strong lead performances save the day.
Everybody that dies does so in extremely contrived fashion.
On the film page, I see this praised as a classic that spawned imitators. Taken from my view as a first time watcher in 2010, I'd say this would have more interest as a film history piece that a truly entertaining movie in its own right. The interplay between Tom Neal and Ann Savage is all in this case, and one would have to overlook the flaws of the bizzarro plot to enjoy it.
A bare pass from me.
