Review of Detective Story (1951) by Ajayesh S — 24 Feb 2008
Kirk Douglas is superb as a detective on a path of self-destruction. Joseph Wiseman is good. Eleanor Parker is beautiful. Synopsis - Kirk is abused as a child by his criminal father, he grows up a cynic, hating criminals and sees the evil in everyone (but misses seeing the good in them).
In the end finds out, he has turned into the monster that he expects in others, sacrifices his life because he loses all hope. Edited a lot...parts don't make sense (how does Kirk find out about his wife's past and abortion, what happens to Dr.
Schneider) because the film was made during the conservative anti-abortion depression era of MPAA controls.
