Review of Detachment (2011) by Cameron C — 25 May 2012
Not sure how to rate this one. Was brutally depressing and offered no real answers (admittedly, I've been conditioned by movies with resolutions) other than hoping we create a system where parents have to pass a prerequisite before bringing kids into the world.
It's realistic given the area and our times, but there were some moments of insight where Barthes talked about creating our own images rather than being force-fed the manipulative consumer-driven crap intended to make us feel bad about ourselves so we buy.
15-minutes have passed since watching this and I'm desperately longing to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm or Modern Family to temper it. Let's go with 4 stars for stickiness and because I won't forget this movie.
