Review of Detachment (2011) by Alvarie A — 14 Nov 2013
With intense and dark portrayals of brokenness, this movie could easily be interpreted as an indictment on a dysfunctional education system. However I took Detachment to be a movie more about love -- love in a sense of how intense the human need for it is, and how people put up defenses (ie.
detachment) in order to deal with a lack of it. To this end, the movie does a masterful job.
