Review of Detachment (2011) by Taylor S — 04 Feb 2014
"Doesn't offer any solutions to its passionate ranting" Well here's the thing. I don't think it was made to have a "happy little ending" with a huge kiss and cute twinkly music and sunshine and all of that.
This movie was a reflection of the real world. It may exaggerated, yes. But the issues in this movies are huge issues today. And guess what? There hasn't been a happy ending yet. We still aren't quite sure how to make everything sunshine and daisies otherwise it would be so! These things are still happening! Yes this movie is fiction, but just because of that, it doesn't have to have a completely resolved plot line.
It ended, and it wasn't quite at the right time, and maybe the viewers weren't ready for it to end, they thought there should have been more to it...but it ended nonetheless. This is real life.
Things do not go as planned. And sometimes things don't get better right away even though it feels like they should. But when that happens, you learn from it. This movie is one that everyone can learn from.
Because although it has a made up plot line, and fake characters with fake names, it is an accurate portrayal of our world today.
