Review of Destination Wedding (2018) by Wed B — 20 Oct 2018
This movie is fantastic.
Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder play difficult characters. They do it very, very well. It's a pleasure to watch them inhabit these characters. It's also a pleasure to watch the characters relate to each other from the first scene through the last.
There are really positive messages about being respectful to each other. There's room for connection in varying ways in how they interact. The drivers to behave or do are all internal and focused toward themselves, not each other.
Crucially, this focus on letting people be extended to both sides of the camera. All the shots made sense in their framing and the whole thing is professional It's professional and workmanlike. It's a quiet, non-self-focused competence as a tool to produce something useful, instead of showing off.
Whatever one thinks of the plot, the emotional and logical honesty rings true. In this way, it is highly relatable. I really, really like this movie. I highly recommend you watch it.
