Review of Destination Moon (1950) by Al M — 31 Mar 2009
A film that seems dated now, but a truly spectacular achievement for 1950. The film fully understands space travel and correctly envisions the surface of the moon. This film doesn't even seem like science fiction to today's viewer because nothing unrealistic occurs in it.
There are no moon men, outrageous forms of space travel, etc. The most bizarre part of the film has to be the five minute long Woody Woodpecker cartoon created by the scientists and financeers behind the moon project.
The Woody cartoon explains space travel and acts as an advertisement to sell other investors on the project. Worth checking out for those who are interested in the history of science fiction, but it may not be for everyone.
