Review of Descent (2007) by Christopher H — 01 Oct 2011
Real good horror films are rare these days, so when I read that The Descent featured an all women cast I expected a T&A extravaganza with a Hilton, Biel lookalike in too tight T-shirts and panties cavorting beneath the earth.
I was so wrong! Finally a horror film that's not a remake or a reebot! And it works really well because it adds on the terror to already a bad and frightening situation (the humanoid show up about one hour after the beginning), good thrillers/horror films knows how to do this.
The sense of claustrophobia and lurking terror was fantastic and I loved the slow buildup before we even see the monsters. The original ending is incredibly tragic and morbid and will hunt your mind for a long time.
Whoever had the idea to cut it from the US version is a criminal.
