Review of Descendants 2 (2017) by Christo A — 31 Oct 2017
The first movie was fun and innovative, this one sorta does a belly flop, but it's still fun and nobody cares how bad the CGI was. It's missing the stellar performance of Kristen Chenoweth as Maleficent from the first film and Dove Cameron's main look throughout the movie was copy-paste Hannah Montana dipped in purple.
Costume-wise, the film did good with it's bold use of colour, Carlos really lived up to his mother's image by being stylish and Uma looked good in the blue braids and pirate hat, and even though her look was heavily derivative, Mal still looked good as a purple Hannah Montana, though her natural platinum blonde hair early in the film made her look very pale.
The songs were meager and lacked the fun of "Evil Like Me" and the sick beat of "Rotten To The Core". The CGI was horribly cheap compared to the first film which did a decent job, and the fact that none of the original Disney villains appeared in the film meant the storyline lacked oomph.
Thomas Doherty (Harry Hook) was hands-down the best actor in the movie.
