Review of Dersu Uzala (1961) by Michael A — 28 Apr 2010
Who wrote that description?? It doesn't remotely do justice to the film. Dersu is not in the least "eccentric" and it was a Russian, not a Soviet surveying party in the early 20th century.
This is a very moving story of cross-cultural friendship and learning, set for the most part in a harsh environment where co-operation is the only way to survive. Maxim Munzuk, who plays Dersu, does a brilliant job.
