Review of Dersu Uzala (1961) by Martin T — 07 Jan 2010
The moments of tension are good, but too much plodding through the wilderness in between. Dersu is too perfect as the wizened friend of the forest, dropping little nuggets of wisdom, being charmingly enigmatic, saving lives, impressing the cityfolk, and proving himself to be master of anything and everything to do with the outdoors.
The overall theme of friendship is strong, if a bit sappy, and there are a few great scenes, but overall, blah.
