Review of Dersu Uzala (1961) by Paul M — 29 Nov 2007
I was expecting to be disappointed by this film, it being one of the last Kurosawa films I'd seen (I'd held back 'cos I'd heard bad things about the quality of the DVD releases). When I eventually saw it I was blown away by how powerful it was.
I almost cried at the end. I said almost! And: it's true what they say about the quality of the DVD releases - they're all poor; all have a shimmer associated with bad print stock and the world still awaits the definitive version of this great film.
Come on Criterion!
