Review of The Mountain Between Us (2017) by Paul M — 11 Feb 2018
"The Mountain Between Us" traps two excellent actors (Kate Winslet and Idris Elba) on a snowy mountain somewhere between Boise and Denver and paints a rather predicable picture of survival. Winslet and Elba are (of course) first-rate as two strangers who hire a private plane to take them to Denver after snow closes the Boise airport (she's got to get back for her wedding while he needs to perform surgery on a child).
But we've seen all this before. And the love story that develops is a bit far-fetched (and the final scene a rather nauseating cliché). The film looks smashing and it's certainly not an embarrassment.
But it probably won't be heavily featured in the clips when Kate gets her inevitable AFI Life Achievement Award in 20 years.
