Review of Denial (2016) by Mathieu C — 25 May 2017
Fantastic trial drama that had me completely captivated with its solid script. I love courtroom drama because the language and dialog is always sharp and intelligent. As always, Tom Wilkinson and Rachel Weisz give strong performances.
And Timothy Spall gives an equally great performance as the antagonist David Irving. The filmmaking itself is rather workmanlike, and yet it still worked emotionally on me several times throughout the film, including the incredibly solemn Auschwitz visitation scenes.
The timing of this film couldn't be more ironic and appropriate given our new age of "alternative facts". This is an overlooked gem of a film from 2016 that I'm really glad to have caught up with.
