Review of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- (2023) by Amorphousalyx — 04 Mar 2023
I would like to start off by saying that, of course, it was really good, lots of fun, visuals were STUNNING, and left me beyond excited for the rest of Swordsmith Village. With that being said, it’s important to note that advertisement for this animation was quite misleading.
I don’t think “movie” is a good term to use to describe what this was. What this film comes down to, essentially, is a two-episode recap followed by episode one of Swordsmith Village. This is also without removing cuts in between for intro/outro sequences(which are nice! However, I personally feel that not so much time of the film should have been occupied by intros and outros).
With all that being said, honestly, even if they had advertised it to be exactly what it was, I still would’ve gone to see it. I love the experience of seeing anime series’ that I’m enjoying but in theaters.
Overall, I’m glad I went, and I wouldn’t take back the experience. Just know that, if you’re reading this and you haven’t watched it yet, please reconsider if a recap and one episode is NOT what you are interested in! It definitely comes off strongly as a cash grab from Crunchyroll(?)’s end of things, however I won’t go badmouthing anybody or anything since I’m fairly unknowledgeable about these things.
Just know if the value is worth it to you. It was worth it to me, but it won’t be the same for everyone! Thank you for reading, if you did.
