Review of Deliver Us from Evil (2014) by Macario E — 06 Jul 2014
The mood was there, but... They could have edited about 20 minutes (maybe more) of this movie and tightened it up. The end scene was unnecessary. SPOILER ALERT: In my opinion, the movie would have been stronger had it ended more in the way of the film Seven.
The man was possessed, so how could he remember where the wife and daughter were? So it would have made more sense, and been a stronger finish. If that was too much, how about just ending with the discovery scene and the slow motion family reuniting as they did, and then fade with the doors playing while we sweep through the catacombs of the dark city to find ourselves in the basement of the first house (where nobody got possessed except the painter) and we see the little boy scratching in the basement floor and he turns and hisses and - boom - black - roll credits.
I wanted to really like this movie. It was too long. Bad pacing. It had the guts. Too bad.
