Review of Deliver Us from Evil (2006) by Dustin M — 05 Apr 2010
Very, very difficult movie to see, but one of the most important in light of the Catholic church's increasing arrogance ("all other forms of Christianity are defective"? come on!!) Interviews with O'Grady's victims are gut-wrenching, and oddly, his input is too.
The guy is so deluded, but his higher-ups never took steps to stop him when he was too weak to do it himself. That's probably the most horrific element of the movie - the lengths to which the church went to protect this guy and cover up his crimes.
The bishop mentioned in the movie, Roger Mahony, is the same one involved in the massive $660 million settlement in L.A. and his complicity for the purposes of advancing his own career is made painfully clear.
Every Catholic needs to see this movie and then start demanding change...or converting to one of those "defective" forms of Christianity in which children are not pimped out to priests.
