Review of Delicatessen (1991) by Caleb M — 02 Feb 2011
Jeunet's Delicatessen puts Burton's (and anyone else's) version of Sweeney Todd to shame! This world takes a while to adapt to, but once you're immersed in it it becomes a living cartoon, where men can climb through the vents in the wall, making love can be the most important thing to do before imminent death, and circus clowns can seem charming.
Delicatessen's mis-en-scene is as charming, immersive and striking as Amelie and The City of Lost Children.
