Review of Delhi Belly (2011) by Jayashankar J — 07 Jul 2011
Thoroughly enjoyed a Bollywood movie after a long time. A laugh riot all the way.
On the surface, this is just another cocktail masala all-hell-break-loose kinda story that Bollywood comes out with every other weekend. What differentiates this movie from the other "me too" movies in this genre is its uninhibited storytelling: it was clear to me that the makers didn't ask the question "Is it too vulgar", "Can parents sit with their kids and watch it" etc. Some of the sequences are so unrefined that it makes you wonder that they actually wrote it after a few drinks. :).
Throughout the movie, the characters were genuinely funny. They never want to be funny, they just are. The humor is pretty crass, but also superbly funny once you loosen up a bit. The whole plot is pretty simple and silly - it occasionally makes you wonder what happened so far, but surprisingly the script feels tight and compact when it comes all together at the end.
Yet another nice addition to Aamir Khan Production's diverse film repertoire. You rock, man!
Don't miss this if you are ready to loosen up a bit ... and avoid kids by all means.
PS: I am not drinking Orange juice. Atleast today. :P.
