Review of Definitely, Maybe (2008) by Andy B — 13 Nov 2009
(**1/2) Certainly an enjoyable movie. It breaks from the formula more than most, and has some very heartwarming parts. It also kept me guessing to a degree, which is rare in this genre. Dialogue feels real and interesting.
In the end, however, it becomes rather forgettable. I probably enjoyed the daughter's performance and lines more than anyone else. I really wish the writer would have focused more on the story version of the events rather than actually playing them out.
I would have loved if every sexual encounter and drinking, smoking, etc was comedically put into child-safe versions. I spent most of the story anticipating the return to the present so I could get the child reaction to each development.
I salute the unique approach and the uncertainty which it creates in the audience. However, I did call the mom. Just sayin.
