Review of Defendor (2009) by Jonas J — 19 May 2010
Following the recent trend of the "regular guy superhero" movie, Defendor feels like a retread. However, unlike Kick-Ass, this film isn't mean spirited about the naivety and delusions necessary to become a vigilante. The altruism of Arthur Poppington, his simple-mindedness even, make his mission even easier to route for... again unlike Kick-Ass.
I would highly recommend that people check the criminally unknown Michael Rappaport film Special, which came out well before Kick-Ass and Defendor (by 4 years). Harrelson is good as our aspy hero, but Rappaport's performance is devoid of Defendor's cliche.
