Review of Defending Your Life (1991) by Angela K — 13 May 2010
If the afterlife is truly like Defending Your Life, I must say I wouldn't mind going there right now. I really like the whole idea of this film, and something that I have never heard of for the story for a film.
It is especially interesting because it intrigues the viewer to not only judge the characters onscreen, but also themselves. Throughout the film I found myself often reflecting on what the characters were going through.
What if I actually prove my worth after I died? Was it all for nothing? Do I, or should I, do it over again should I get the chance? These are just a couple things I thought to myself. I had also found out that what one of the opposing forces said has at least a little truth behind it, what we do here on Earth is based on either fear or love.
I have only one problem with this film. That problem is the ending. I personally did not feel the film's conclusion did not match what the film was trying to convey throughout. Despite the rather abrubt ending, Defending Your Life is one film I can say that has definately had a positive effect on my life thus far, and the messages it presents are something that have not gone unnoticed by me and will not soon be forgotten.
