Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Jake A — 11 Feb 2017
At the centre of this true life story about the largest environmental disaster in U.S. history due to an oil rig explosion and spill are the people impacted by that one night where everything went from normal to chaos.
Yes the action is stellar and really well filmed, cracking mix of CGI and practical effects as well but what impresses just as much is the acting by the great cast and how the people involved are handled.
It also has a solid score and I love watching how the oil rig is managed and the engineering involved. Despite it having some cliches about it this is a thoroughly eye opening film into survival, sacrifice and determination against the odds.
