Often thrilling, often numbing, Deepwater Horizon probes the depths of the oil disaster of 2010 with brisk efficiency. Unfortunately, characterizations are weak and there aren't many reasons to care about the figures involved.
It often follows the stale disaster movie template of hero goes off and helps people in a major disaster, while worried wife stays at home listening to radio or phone. It doesn't break away much to set itself as a distinguishing force in the genre.
