Review of DeepStar Six (1989) by Skyler I — 22 Sep 2011
Words can't really express how terrible this movie was. It's a horror/monster movie hybrid that is never scary and doesn't give the fantastic monster nearly enough screen time to make it worth your while.
The acting is pretty cringe-worthy, and the characters are all uninteresting die predictible deaths. It drags along at a rage-inducingly slow pace, taking forever to reach a conclusion that we all saw coming a mile away.
The direction is lackluster and visionless; everything in the so-called plot happens strictly by-the-numbers. The whole experience is a tedious mess that not even one of the best-designed monsters ever (which this film certainly has.
Despite all its flaws, I have nothing but praise for the monster that terrorizes the characters) can make interesting. In other words, it's just another typical Sean S. Cunningham film.
