A very silly film, which is fully aware of its silliness and just glories in it - great fun! Stephen Sommers (who went on to do "The Mummy" and "Van Helsing") can be relied upon for actiony thrills with a hefty dose of goofy, self-deprecating humour, which gives an endearingly B-movie quality to his films.

In this, a bunch of thieves and smugglers planning on looting a cruise ship find that it's already been invaded - but by giant and extremely vicious squid monsters. And naturally, the squids begin to pick them off one by one.

Treat Williams plays a low-rent Han Solo, complete with his own sidekick (Kevin J O'Connor) and banged-up vessel. Famke Janssen plays a jewel thief who's good in a crisis. They all have tremendous fun with their wisecracks and with the gross and slightly scary horrors set out for them. The film just crashes along at a great pace, not pretending to be anything other than what it is, and very good at it too!
