Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Brendan N — 27 Mar 2010
The first asteroid film out of the ranks for its time and sadly it got off to a very poor start. the film tries to play out in a serious manner but the screenplay is not there for the film they are trying to create.
The acting in mediocre and the direction seems to be seriously lacking any real bite or substance. why a film that is clearly trying to apppeal to the masses seems content in boring us. if the film had worked on bringing us a gritty take on the subject I feel it would have worked alot better but with the happy feel of the screenplay I feel this misses a huge opportunity to take the subject matter out of the norm.
The conclusion is the best part with the special effects kicking in but the film would have lost way before this. the other asteroid film clearly wanted to blow everything up and have no story, which one do you think made the most money?
