Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Allie H — 25 Nov 2009
2: Reasonably entertaining picture. When comparing it to a film like Armageddon (the other asteroid/comet movie from the same timeframe), it's definitely obvious which of the two was made by a woman.
There's nothing particularly spectacular about the picture. The script is merely satisfactory. The acting is a bit hit and miss. Freeman works well, Duvall does not. Some of the other astronauts work, but Sobieski and Wood do not.
It's all a bit too thin, formulaic, and over the top in places. Granted, it does have its moments (like the impact in the ocean, a few key scenes with Freeman and Leoni, etc), but they aren't enough to raise the picture out of its mediocrity.
