Review of Deep Blue (2003) by Manon M — 28 Sep 2008
This is what I call a perfect work of photography film... there is no way to see a better one dealing with that kind of subject. It is georgously photographed with lots of love for the small details underlined with beautiful music by no one else than George Fenton... Dolphnins, whales, ice-bears, sharks... you get to see extremely wonderful pictures of many types of life, but the whole highlight here is obviously the part about the real deep blue see: a place so dark and still unknown for men...impossible for us to survive. So, not to miss: The 11.000 deep Mariana Trench, the deepest place in the oceans. This whole part ist absolutely haunting and scary, yet beautiful and fascinating... It reminds us that while men continue to explore the universe, there is actually a much greater and less known world out there. Still, there are many species yet unknown that live in the deepest parts of the oceans, a world totally out of our imagination and full of shivering darkness. It is incredible to see how life is able to adapt to its surroundings and what wonderful and astonishing creatures live in the deepest oceans.
The facts are kept to a minimum but this movie is not about information, it's totally about the pictures and the atmosphere they create. The images are absolutely breathtaking, showing nature in its most beautiful and brutal way.
