Review of Dedication (2007) by Orlok N — 10 Nov 2008
This movie surprised me. Usually a movie about a guy who is mentally unstable and offputting to everyone he meets gets on my nerves to no end, but the writing and the performance of Crudup made up for it and it never felt sappy even though it became predictable. Crudup is great, but there was something about him, it seemed like he was doing a Jim Carrey impression throughout and that took me out of the movie a few times, but he is still very convincing in the role. Wilkinson is entertaining as the voice of reason and he plays off of Crudup to create some very funny scenes.
This was actor Justin Theroux's first film as a director and though he uses too many quick cuts for my taste, it still looks like he has a future as a director.
