Children's book author Crudup is emotionally paralyzed by the death of his illustrator, who's also his only friend. We soon find out why, as this off-putting movie asks us to show care and concern for a man who puts the funk in dysfunctional.
When editor Balaban tries to force a female illustrator on his reluctant author, you know romance is in the air - but the air in this movie is terminally foul.
