Review of Deconstructing Harry (1997) by Bobby B — 21 Aug 2009
Wayward and grotesque, Deconstructing Harry is on of the most entertaining Woody Allen films I've seen lately. One of the earlier scenes between Allen and Judy Davis is horrendously shot and poorly acted, but the film improves exponentially.
The shameless depravtiy of the writer protagonist, Harry Block, and the ensemble encountered during the reflective detours of his literature ensure the movie's swift pace and twisted unpredicatability.
The "out of focus" sequence with Robin Williams is perhaps my favorite material born from the mind of Woody Allen. Then the characters go on a road trip that's like a hilarious and perverse reimagining of Bergman's Wild Strawberries.
With all this and Billy Crystal as The Devil, Deconstructing Harry is definitely worth a watch.
