Review of Death Wish (2018) by Paul G — 02 Mar 2018
I can see why the film's critics' rating score is so low. I can't think of a movie more likely to offend the tender sensibilities of the refined artistes who review films for a living. At the same time, it's equally obvious to me why the **audience's** rating is so high.
This film was an excellent -- if, admittedly, an unnecessary -- remake of a classic film. It updates the premise and location for 2018 and strikes a pitch-perfect balance between showing and glorifying the vigilante violence that's required for a film called Death Wish on the one hand while also debating whether vigilante justice is either necessary or legitimate.
