Until the manager at the theater reminded me, I had not taken note that this was a remake. As I don't normally watch remakes because in my opinion it's very difficult to meet a previously set standard, I instantly became hesitant about what to expect from this film.
At the same time, however, being a fan of Bruce Willis and knowing that most of his films follow a predictable 'the good buy always wins' path, I went in with the attitude that remake or not I would enjoy this film; and, I did.
Predictable or not, Bruce Willis gave this version of the movie its own life.
