Review of Death Wish (2018) by Dg L — 24 Mar 2018
Acting : Bruce Willis is excellent in his role here. Believable as a grieving husband, he does not look out of place in the surgery or in a hoody doling out punishment. Elizabeth Shue does scared well. The 2 detectives roles are paper thin, and add no threat to Willis's character. Why Robocop shows up for "you must try harder" police captain stare down is beyond me.
The pacing is adequate .. the editing is pedestrian ... the continuity shows the budget restrains on this one ( watch the playback scene from the mobile phone : the "crashed" SUV was obviously restaged, without the crash ! ).
And the tagline is nonsensical : "How far would you go to protect your family ?" - He doesn't protect his family. The damage is done early on. It's just a revenge flick.
But if Willis was an unknown actor in this, the critics would say he was the best thing in it, and destined for better things. See it for Willis, nothing else.
