Review of Death Wish (1974) by Brandon S — 27 Jun 2007
This is the movie that proves why Chuck Norris doesn't even hold a candle to Charles Bronson. Bronson represents the every man's desire to make things right with himself and the world when it comes crashing down - here, it's the violation of his wife and daughter that inspires him to do what the cops can't or won't.
..get justice by any means necessary. This isn't the kind of film that you can just sit down and enjoy - if you try to enjoy it as you would, say, something like Old School, you're going to come out depressed (and probably disappointed).
It's a sobering movie about a sobering subject, but still essential to anyone who's a fan of great storytelling and atmosphere. This is a must-see, even if it's hellaciously heavy.
