Review of Death Wish (1974) by Joseph R — 04 Feb 2009
Death Wish, a classic 70's vengeance movie that fits perfectly with other genre flicks from it's day, like Dirty Harry, The French Connection, and Bullitt. The film not only serves as a gripping tale of payback and vengeance, but is a perfect example of just how easily police are willing to tuck away problems in order to keep social order.
Death Wish is the story of a New York architect who's wife and daughter are brutally attacked, leading to revenge served the best way....served ice cold. Charles Bronson is a rough, gritty anti-hero who portrays a crushed man on a mission. Death Wish also helps paint a perfect picture of despair and trouble with its filthy, gritty look.
Death Wish is one of those films that will remain a classic forever, and was a groundbreaking movie that helped pave the way for movies in the same genre. Death Wish is a dark and dreary, yet explosive and exciting!
