An action classic. A modern man's base nature is revealed after his family is practically slaughtered in an unprovoked attack. While others may take issue with Bronson's rather illogical motives as he dons the mantle of 'The Vigilante', it comes from the simple fact that this man is completely broken in many ways and he is willing to take his rage out on anything that has a predatory gleam to do harm to the good members of society.
It may be reasonably argued that Bronson's character lacks the intimidation and the detective skills to track down the thugs that preyed upon his clan's membership. Either way, Bronson's stellar performance anchored what could be called a mediocre thriller at best if the role had been given to another actor.
With plenty of social commentary, realistic violence and the dead-on performance of Bronson, Death Wish stands as an American action classic.
