Review of Death Wish (1974) by Tony H — 26 May 2008
Quite excellent uber-violence from Bronson who disposes of every hoodlum he encounters after his wife and daughter are raped. Winner was a strange choice for director but does an admirable job by shooting the film very much in the same style as The French Connection and The Taking of Pelham 123. The New York locales are used to good effect, so much so you can smell the garbage as well as understand the 'toilet' (as it is described in the film) that the city had become in the 70's.
Overall, Bronson's your man if you've got Chavs drinking Stella outside your house all hours of the day - a quick blast from his pistol through a copy of The New York Times. Great stuff.
