Review of Death Wish (1974) by Heyward — 26 Jul 2008
The daddy of vigilante films still packs a lot of punch as Bronson turns form knee-jerk liberal to somebody who'd make John Milius proud. It's not the look, acting or the direction that keeps this film alive, but the sheer brutality of it's conveyed message - when you look at scenes of cops pondering how to let Paul Kersey off the hook after about 10 people have been killed you can just say to yourself: "they don't make them as they used to".
And the ending...the ending is great.
